I'm sure everyone is incredibly excited about the upcoming softball season, so lets have a look at what's new, what's important, and what we should all be looking forward to (other than Stumpy flying out to the left fielder 104 times)!
New Members:
We have 5 new rookies on the team this season: MAs Denise and Meaghan, Meaghan's husband Chris (the team's first REAL switch hitter!), Buyer Pete, and Pete's wife Kate. Pete and Kate, as previously noted, will likely lead the team in several categories, including: Unassisted triple plays, jaw dropping pickups of grounders, and especially for Kate, balls hit over unsuspecting outfielders' heads.
Important Stuff:
We have opportunity for sponsorship again this season. Unlike last season's less-than-expected turnouts at Boston Pizza, we should have a reasonably sized group after the games going out for some bevvies. Mike has all the details, and as soon as he gets back from Germany, we'll all hear about them.
Keep An Eye On:
- Stumpy's legs. If he tries any harder to hit one over the fence, he'll likely have an accident that would require some Depends Adult Undergarments. Since he doesn't wear them, keep an eye out for the evidence running down his leg. Yes, that's disgusting. No, I'm not changing it.
- Offence: We're hoping to have at least 10 members out for every game this season, and if past history is any indication, when we have a full team, we score lots and lots of runs. See above. Get it? Runs? HA!
- Defence: With the good turnout we're expecting, we'll actually be able to each take a couple of innings off to rest! A rested fielder is a good fielder! Especially the outfielders, who do a lot of running. Running! Stumpy runs in the outfield! Get it? Ha Ha!
- Pitching: With the high probability that Tim will pitch at least one inning this season, team ERA could reach triple digits. This may or not be hilarious.
The OPGSPA has delayed the start of the season until the week of May 21, so we have another week to sit and wait. Use that time to hit the batting cages, play catch to warm up, or in some cases, stay up all night taking care of a newborn and wondering what this "sleep" thing is people keep talking about.
