Nothing Matters but the Defence [Updated with MVP voting results]

The Lords and Ladies came from behind on Tuesday, beating division rival Balls Deep 13-12. The rest of this blog entry is courtesy of Team Captain, Mike!

"Looking at the MVP vote, I think Jeremy should have added that he was thrown out at 3B for a selfish play, in fact the pitcher had the ball in his hand when he was on 2nd. That should just result in immediate disqualification from MVP voting.

I urge everyone to vote for Meaghan for MVP as her selfless commitment to the game served as a catalyst for all to perform at the highest level! Bobby also sacrificed the body for the game, it would have been the highlight of the year if he had come up with the Ball on that diving catch!

Note: There was actually a discussion at Boston Pizza about Erick and Jeremy being fined... That will be one Boston Pizza voucher each!"

Game MVP
In a vote as legitimate as any recent Russian presidential election, Stumpy has won the MVP vote for this game, garnering 12 votes. Meaghan came in second with 10, and Jeremy a distant third with merely 1. However, since Stumpy didn't really do anything MVP-worthy, the MVP is hereby awarded to Bobby, for sacrificing his body for the team.

Jeremy and Stumpy have surrendered their Boston Pizza vouchers, because, you know... Meh.

Next game is Tuesday, July 31 at 4:30 on Kinsmen North vs. WTF Collective.

Lords and Ladies come up short to WTF

Never in the history of softball (honestly! You could look it up!) has a team scored 10 runs in an inning, and gone on to lose the game. This event befell the Lords and Ladies on Wednesday, as they made up a rain out game to the WTF Collective, losing 19-17.

The game started off positively, as the Lords and Ladies scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first. Then the offence exploded for the 10-run inning in the second. After that, the bats went silent for some reason. The defence looked colander-like, allowing WTF to regroup and chip back, taking the lead for good in the fifth inning.

Even the support of two (count 'em) TWO spectators, the Lords and Ladies couldn't muster the drive to make their fans proud. Even Alex got into the act of disappointing the fans, as he achieved something only Jeremy has done (on several previous occasions), by unsuccessfully trying to stretch a triple into a home run. "I got the go sign", said an out-by-a-mile Alex. "Just ask [third base coach] Tim!"

Seeing as Tim tells everyone to GO GO GO, and never pays any attention to coaching himself, this was not a valid excuse.

Speaking of Tim, he managed to add his name to the Injury List. Pre-game, Tim took his life into his hands and began playing catch with Definitely-Doesn't-Throw-Like-A-Girl, Diana. Soon after beginning, it all came to a crashing halt as he took a 103 MPH fastball off the tip of his glove, and into his valuable, valuable face.

Tim demonstrates his ability to stare directly into your soul.

This caused a flurry of excitement, and not the tasty kind from McDonalds. Immediately, one of the spectators went flying off the bleachers to tend to the wounded warrior. In the end, an ice pack and a hearty "There, there, it'll be OK" was enough to get Tim back to playing.

AWARDS

GAME MVP Goes to Diana, going 4-for-4, including 3 singles and a double. She wins despite the unforgivable atrocity of being called out for leading off first base, and the slightly more forgivable crime of trying to kill Tim.

BEST DRESSED This award has been retired, because we all look so good.

It's amazing we can even field a team with all the owies everyone has!

Diana (ACL)
Mike (knee)
Brian (foot)
Alex (scraped leg)
Meaghan (back, shoulder, finger, lip, boo-boo on elbow)

HALF-SEASON YEAR IN REVIEW

Record: 3-3-1
Run differential: -2

We will remain in the recreational division for the remainder of the regular season, thanks to a typical-for-us beginning of the season.

As Expected, New Uniforms Spark Lords and Ladies Offence

Guest Blog Post by Diana.

Great game everyone... here is the pic with the new shirts... we will take another one next week to make sure we have at least everyone in a group pic of some sort.  If you are wondering what the other two pics are...
Diana points to where "the thinky part" lives.

I was best dressed since Jeremy was away...why? I had the matching glasses, manicure, socks, purple mechanical leg, and pearl earrings (ed note: Someone should finish that off with a pearl necklace) to top off the look.  Thank you Meaghan for the nomination.  Meaghan was the most injured.  Her pic illustrates some of her wounds.

Meaghan's tumble over the safe line at home plate caused irreparable damage to her lip, dislocated shoulder, and contorted finger.

She tried to impersonate her lovely bf's (ed note: Husband)  dive/fall  to first with a catastrophic ankle duster at home.  Blood and all she came out with a smile!  Thanks Tim for the nomination for player of the game!  Way to go Alex with the inside-the-park home run that gave us many RBIs but your run didn't count as we reached our ten for the inning... Also, Mike's inside-the-park home run was awesome and speedy!  Tim was a great first baseman and threw the ball to the pitcher with authority every time he caught it.  Rakhi scored some solid hits and her base running was phenomenal...  Erick switched from outfield to 3rd and played solid, holding down the baseline.  Rob ended the game with the super catch along with some great batting.  Chris pitched all game, even when life gave him lemons with a quad pull... he pushed through the last inning to close with a major win!

Boston Pizza was fun!
