Lords and Ladies Hope New Look Can Fix Offence

Shown above is the new look for the Lords and Ladies softball team! The new jerseys arrived on Friday afternoon and are ready for use for the team's next game on July 5!

As noted in a previous post, these are a cotton-poly blend, short sleeve, three buttons. They are lighter weight than our last jerseys: a size medium shirt is now about 25 grams lighter than the previous version.

Accessory watch: The purple Rawlings baseball socks sold at National Sports match fairly well with these new shirts.

Now that we've all got our look together, we need all team members to be at a game in the near future for a new team photo!

Potential Losing Streak Looms over Lords and Ladies

You guys remember a few weeks ago, when the team scored 20 runs in consecutive games? Remember that? Seems like years ago, doesn't it? Anyway, for the second game in a row, the bats were silent (except Jeremy's, I guess), and the Lords and Ladies lose big, 19-5 to Fission Chips. If we lose for a third time in a row, that, my friends is a losing streak.

With Meaghan sitting out with a sore back once again, the Lords and Ladies had to make due with a short bench. Playing with only 10 players, the team couldn't string together many hits. In the end, the team only scored 5 runs over 7 innings, leaving the team's new head cheerleader unfortunately silent.

Game Highlights:
Jeremy's inside-the-park home run

Notable Quoteables:
"It just died!" - Stumpy
"You could have had it..." - Everyone else

Next game is Thursday, July 5 at 4:30 on Kinsmen North @ Class IV Power

Lords and Ladies drop a squeaker to RBI'd For Your Pleasure

Weather issues have been front and centre for a couple weeks now, what with a brief rain delay during the fourth game of the Lords and Ladies' season. In the end, the team kept it close, losing a heart-breaker by only 17 runs on Tuesday prevening.

The game started off promising. The defence held fairly well, allowing only two runs to RBI'd in the top of the first. Then, using a different lead off hitter for the third time this year, Jeremy opened the bottom of the first with an inside the park home run. Unfortunately, that was the only run that inning. The team scored another in the second, but in the top of the third, they allowed 8 runs for the second consecutive inning. By the time the skies opened up, the Lords and Ladies were way behind.

After the rain delay, the team took care of RBI'd in the top of the fourth, only allowing 4 runs. Trailing by twenty going into the bottom of the fourth (which would be the last inning due to curfew), the Lords and Ladies made a valiant effort for the team's youngest fan, scoring three and barely losing to a tough division rival.

The Lords and Ladies injury report is continually growing, and now reads:

Chris M. (leg)
Diana (ACL)
Mike (knee)
Brian (foot)
Meaghan (back - trapeze accident)
Erick (Ego)

Fan attendance was estimated at a strong three, which is pretty close to a sellout.

Game MVP goes to Alex: 2 for 2, with a double and a triple.

Best Dressed goes to Chris M.!

Next game will be Thursday June 28 @ Fission Chips, on Kinsmen South.

2. Mike (7)
3. Chris M./Diana (6)

Home Runs

1. Mike (2.650)

Heavy Rain Attempts to Dampen Lords and Ladies Winning Streak

Rain. It sucks.

To hear Official Team Chief Meteorologist/Pitcher Chris tell it, we were this close to a tornado that would sire visions of ruby slippers, tin men, and seas of munchkins. In the end, it was merely a 15 minute downpour that flooded the field, and postponed the Lords and Ladies' first chance at a REAL winning streak in many years.

The game will be made up in a few weeks, prior to the division shuffle.

In other news, Team Spirit is at an all-time high! Ten team members showed up at team sponsor Boston Pizza after the game was officially called off, and three, (count 'em) 1-2-3 team members showed up for Tuesday's game sporting knee-high baseball socks! In addition to two-time defending Best Dressed award winner Jeremy, Pitcher Chris also arrived dressed as a ballplayer. But the bigger (pleasant) surprise was Bobby:

Bobby (right) demonstrates how to radiate pure awesome

THAT'S how you compete for the Best Dressed award. In fact, Bobby would have won it if the game hadn't been called off, because Jeremy forgot his cap. Let's hope that once we all have the new jerseys, we can all complete the outfit and take the field of battle looking sharp!

Next game is Tuesday June 19, at 5:00pm on PARC East. See you all there!

Lords and Ladies Make it Two in a Row With Win Over Unstable Isotopes

For the second consecutive game, your Lords and Ladies put up a score of runs, in a curfew shortened game against Homer Simpson's favourite team, the Isotopes.

The Lords and Ladies stumbled out of the gate, scoring only 3 runs in the first two innings, but finished strong. Fifteen Lords and Ladies went to bat in the top of the fifth to drive in 11 runs and put this one away.

"We can't keep winning, they'll move us to Intermediate!" said no one in particular, but they're right. If the team keep ploughing through other teams like this, they'll move the Lords and Ladies up to the Intermediate division for the second half of the season, where we'll be surely annihilated.

Not everything was sunshine and lollypops, though. After being the leadoff hitter for 3 consecutive years, Stumpy's demotion to second in the order has obviously affected his ego. He struggled, getting only one hit in 4 plate appearances. Obviously, Stumpy doesn't like it in the two-hole.

Meaghan, on the other hand, has found her groove. Instead of flailing wildly at the ball, she's decided she's content to stand there and watch pitches go by. The results are promising: 3 walks in 3 plate appearances, for a perfect 1.000 on-base percentage. "Well at least I look pretty as I stand there!", she said.

Highlights:

  • Mike and his gimpy knee, hitting a double and an inside-the-park grand slam. The contract for that Aleve endorsement deal will be arriving shortly.
  • Jeremy broke out, with two doubles, a triple and 4 RBI.
  • Meaghan, Rakhi, Chris Mason and Diana all had a perfect 1.000 OBP game.

Game MVP goes to Mike for his spectacular offensive display.

Best Dressed again goes to Jeremy, but there's talk of a coup.

REMINDER! The team is getting new jerseys, so please don't forget to email the team's email address with your size, your number and the name you want on the back!

Next game is Tuesday June 12 at 4:30 on Kinsmen North. See you all there!

Lords and Ladies Cruise to Victory With a Score of Runs

A first inning rain delay couldn't dampen the spirits of the Lords and Ladies on this day, as the team shredded the Turtles, scoring 20 runs and cruising to an easy victory.

The team burst out of the gate early, driving in 5 runs in the driving rain (see what I did there?) in the first inning, prior to a brief rain delay.

The sun came out after that to shine on a brilliant offensive performance.

Another matter entirely was Meaghan's 3 strikeout, 1 ground out performance, which has sparked a call for the firing of her hitting coach, Stumpy. When reached for comment, Stumpy replied "I had swimming!"
Meaghan has already replaced her hitting coach once this year, going through coaches the way Kardashians go through husbands. Midway through the first game of the year, after her first hitting coach, Jeremy, has pathetically put up only 2 singles, Meaghan ceremoniously fired him, replacing him with the better performing Stumpy. As you'll recall, Stumpy hit three doubles in the luckiest game of his brief softball career so far.

Keep an eye on this blog for up-to-the-whenever-I-feel-like-it updates on this developing situation.

Highlights included:
  • Chris found a map to get off the pitcher's rubber and made several great fielding plays. He also went 4 for 4.
  • A line up change proved our team performs better with a Peter in the two-hole.
  • Mike returned from his European vacation to go 4 for 4 including two doubles.

Game MVP goes to Kate for going 4 for 4 with a walk, and destroying Stumpy's theory that the lead-off hitter can't get any RBIs, because she had 4 of them.

Best dressed award is again awarded to Jeremy, but there's a slight chance he may be taking this a bit too seriously.

The team's next game will be Thursday, June 7 at 4:30 on Kinsmen South versus the Isotopes. See you all there!!
